The idea for this App originated from the Tennis Warehouse Community where more than 750 people up voted for this App to be made.

This App has been created with dedication and passion to improve the most powerful skill a tennis player can have: ‘the serve’. It uses advanced algorithms to calculate the initial speed (ISS), which corresponds to the speed shown on TV. The calculation is based on the position from where the ball was hit ‘till its landing location inside the service box. Holding in account the player’s height and most important the travel time of the ball. Taking advantage of the iPhone’s great camera, this App allows you to record your serve at 240 FPS (frames per second) that provides the best precision!

Using a simple 4 step intuitive interface, which includes the graphical representation of the court with a moving scale that will further enhance the precision of data entry, you can calculate the serve speed within seconds.

There’s a free feature in this app that allows you to save your serve videos including the speed and date. This will help you to keep track of your serve’s history, making it easier to review and compare them to your opponents.

Pros and cons of ServeSpeed app for iPhone and iPad

ServeSpeed app good for

This app is perfect for what its meant to do. It takes every factor into account and from what Ive seen its pretty accurate. Also the customer service is excellent. This app is definitely worth the $3!
Works well and provides pretty accurate readings- based on comparison to what my Babolat Pop provides for the same hitting sessions.
App is very useful and easy to learn how to use by watching the tutorial video emailed to you. Very close to values I had been obtaining by counting frames, estimating distances and using an online calculator.
Intuitive, easy to use, and seems accurate if you follow directions.
Congratulations, i love ur app. I just tried it on my brand new iphone6 running 8.0.0 but it doesnt work : when trying to set the hit frames, the -5 -1 +1 +5 buttons dont work.(they have no effect) Hope ull be able to fix it quickly. Thanks 4 ur work. Rodolphe, paris France
Thanks! The result is great, especially using iphone 5s 120 fps, this is the best algorithm to measure your serve speed, resultd be better then using most of 150$ radars

Some bad moments

I know my serve is faster than 56 mph. I dont think this app works.
The first version only calculated an average speed. So, it was not very practical. This new version (1.2) calculates the initial speed, which is much more useful. One nice thing about this app is that it records at 60 fps on my iphone 4s, which is a lot better than 30 fps using the standard iPhone camera function. App has a clean interface that allows you to record multiple serves to be analyzed later or record one serve that you can analyze immediately. I love how you can toggle back and forth between two adjacent frames and select any point between the two frames using a slide bar, not just a midpoint between the frames for maximum accuracy. Bottom line. This program works great!
This app is great! Now you can record anyone serving and gain an understanding of just how fast their serve is. Ive done this very thing before in the past with a digital camera and then having to do the manual calculations. I can tell you, it is quite a pain. This app not only saves you from having to do all that, you can find out what the serve speed is right on the court, right on your iphone, only minutes after the serve has been made. Very impressive!
The way the app works is really ingenious and makes total sense! I only got to try it once, so I still have to test it further, but my first impression is very positive. Its really easy to use and appears to be accurate. I just would like to try it many more times because on the only serve I tried to measure it gave me 110 mph…. although I felt very happy about it I know I need to try it several more times, as I didnt think (and still dont) I could serve that fast.
This is the second serve speed app Ive tried and this one is BY FAR more intuitive. It was very easy and quick to input the video data and calculate my serve speeds. Once you get the hang of it, you can quickly analyze several videos. Love that you can save your vids w the speed encoded to easily refer to and compare.
this app allows users to change height and court grit unit from feet to meter, and somehow superimpose grits on the video so landing points of the ball can easily estimated.
